Signs a Deity is Contacting You
And what to do if they are. This is what I've experienced throughout my own journey connecting with deities.

Call of the Gods
In my work as a professional witch and tarot reader, I get asked all the time how to connect with specific deities. I have been very open across my social media pages about the deities I worship and weave magic with, so this question makes sense, but it is difficult to answer in a short social media comment, so I felt it would be perfect to delve into on this platform.
Who are the deities?
Deities are the Gods of the old religions and various spiritual paths around the globe. They make contact with people that they want to help or guide in some way, or with people whom they wish to make their devotees.
They are ancient beings, wiser and more patient than you might think, all with their own personalities and moods. Their energy and power is intimidating, but shouldn’t necessarily be feared. As long as you approach them with love and respect, they are willing to communicate with you.
In this post, I am sharing how I know when a deity is contacting me, what to do when you have confirmed that they are, and the story of how I began working with the goddess Athena - because it is the perfect example of how all this works.
The Signs
Before I delve into the signs I’ve experienced when being contacted by a deity, I want to say this one thing: I have never chosen my deities; deities have always chosen me. Personally, I feel it is best to allow the deities who want to assist you on your path come to you. Does this mean you’re not allowed to call on any deity you want to? Absolutely not. But let me put it this way, if you feel drawn to them, they may be contacting you. So, let’s get into it.
Ways my deities have contacted me:
they appear in dreams or meditation
sending me their name everywhere: on social media, in books, even on television!
showing me their symbols or sacred animals
instilling me with a strong “pull” to them until I make contact
Seems simple enough, right? In fact, their calls are often so subtle, it takes me a few days to really trust that they are coming through and contacting me. What I’ve found is that the signs of them increase until I can’t ignore them anymore, and then I prepare to make contact with them.

Steps for Contact
Once I finally trust my own intuition and accept that I am being called by a deity, I immediately begin researching who they are and what they’re all about. Deities like it when you are familiar with them before you make contact. You don’t have to be a scholar and know every single detail and every myth they’re featured in, but you do want to have the basics down.
What’s their mythological story?
What do they assist humans with?
What kind of people do they like working with; who do they choose?
What are some of their signs and symbols?
What are some ancient practices or festivals associated with them?
What kind of offerings do they prefer?
When is their season or time of power? (Are they a day or a night deity, are they associated with a specific moon phase, etc.)
Finding the answers to all these questions before making that initial contact will not only show them that you are interested in getting to know them, but it will also give you some ideas of why they have chosen you to begin with.
So, where do you find this information?
Well, there are a ton of books in the world that go into details about deities. I have also found that searching Reddit or Quora is quite useful - reading other people’s experiences with certain deities has helped me confirm some of what I had picked up about them. And one of my favorite websites for deity research is https://occult-world.com/
And what do you do once you’ve found the information?
Once you have a little background knowledge about the deity calling you, then it’s time to craft your altar to them. It doesn’t have to be a big altar, and it doesn’t have to take up permanent space in your home (unless you start worshipping and working with them regularly). But to get started you need some central focus, some space that is just for them, so you can attune to their energy, and so they feel welcomed by you.
